Was winfixer now problem #2 (NOAHDFEAR)

Ok my computer was working fine Thursday night, when I got up today it froze everytime you click on anything I've tried rebooting didn't work. I booted into safe mode and did an avast scan and it says win32.ocx or something like that he file was pskavs.dll....so I deleted it....it took forever but I think I got it...right now the only way I'm able to get on is I started in safe mode with restore something or other lol and it lets me do lots...I used Trend Micro online scanner and it found no virus or threats, I've tried everything I know how even several system restores to different restore points.........I KNOW you'll be able to help me.....so heres my HJT log and I'm sorry for bothing you again

Offhand, I suspect that avast is detecting the panda activescan and thinking it is a virus

Several antivirus programs have this problem of a false positive caused by pandas activescan (I believe it is caused by the feedback agent used to help them determine where geographically particular infestations are popping up. This is one of the reasons they provide the free scanners, so that they can get data on what threats are spreading rapidly and where.).

 

ok thanks I deleted the entry you said out of the log and uninstalled the panda thing also....but I can still only use my computer in safe mode...its the one you choose to restore or use in safe mode....When I restart my computer in normal mode I wait til everything loads and go to click on an icon (for example Internet Exlplorer) well that icon disappears and the whole works freeze up...I have to turn my comp off then back on and reboot.....any ideas......heres' my hjt log now.............

Hi Shari,

Just noticed that you have both Symantec and Avast entries in your log. I recommend you uninstall one of them (Symantec IMO). If the following entries are present after uninstalling, fix them.

You should also go to the misc tools section of HJT and click Delete an NT Service, then type SNDSrvc and hit enter.

Reboot. Open a command window and type sfc /scannow. Have your XP cd handy. Reboot when complete and let us know if anything has changed. Post a new HJT log.

 

the only symantec entry i have in add/remove programs is live update symantec corporation...is that what i should remove??????????? And the only cd I have is emachines t2984 restore dvd is that the right thing, and its not gonna reformat is it???????

Yes, Live Update is one to remove, as well as any Norton AV.

sfc /scannow checks the Windows system files for corruption, missing, etc and replaces as needed. No, it won't reformat or affect any other files stored on your computer.

 

ok ran into little snag....I uninstalled the symantec thing and norton av isn't in there.....i deleted the entries out of the log and tried to delete and nt service but it said this the service "sndsrvc" is enabled or running. disable it first from hjt itself or the services.msc window. What do i do? And also you say reboot and the open a command window....do I reboot into safe mode with command prompt or what??????????

Click Start>run and type services.msc, then hit enter. In the services list, locate Symantec Network Drivers Service, right click and choose properties. Stop the service, then set startup type to disabled. Click Apply then OK and close the services window. Try again to use HJT and the delete an nt service feature.

Click Start>run and type cmd, hit enter to open a command window, then type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

 

Ok another prob. I can't reboot my computer in normal mode it still freezes up. about how long does that scan take? And the sfc/scannow doesnt' work in safe mode. What to do now? Ahhhhhh!!! I can feel the gray hair popping out of my scalp lol. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I was in the ER for 5 hours tonight, Severe bronchitis. And thursday night one of my friends son went missing and they found his body in a creek the next morning, he was 7. Its been crazy around here and I'm beat!......ooh guess I needed to vent also Sorry lol.....ok heres the hjt log.........Thank you ooooh so much oh wise one!

Oh also I bet you know this but I'm running my computer in Directory Services Restore Mode and when it asks whether I want safe mode or restore mode I say Safe...I've tried restoring it and it still freezes......Shari

 

Click Start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the startup tab, uncheck everything, apply, close and restart. Let me know if normal mode starts up OK. If it does, check the task manager for each of the following processes and if necessary, open the Avast folder and manually start each.

they all were there exept the ashdisp.exe. I went to the folder and started it manually.
