Am currently using Win98 with most of the updates. Would like to install a USB 2.0 PCI card, but will it work w/ win98, or will I have to install win98SE to get it to work. What is it that SE has that 98 does not have to support the USB 2.0 PCI card? I will need it if I want to connect an Iomega External hard drive.

    Thanks,

    Marvin:confused:

    Got this from www.usbman.com:
I just installed Win98SE on a mobo that has USB 2.0 built in. As soon as I loaded the VIA USB 2.0 drivers, the USB ports worked like a charm. Just check out the card before you buy it to make sure that the vendor has drivers for Win 98 -non-SE.

Worth having a look at the Belkin USB 2 PCI card. Works like a charm on my system but I have Win XP though.

    PS.
Just checked the drivers on my installation CD and Win 98 is listed.

I recently went to www.pricewatch.com and ordered a five-port USB card from a dealer listed there for $17, including shipping. I got two and they both work well under Windows 98 SE and Windows 2000. Since the manufacturer furnishes the drivers, I think whether it is SE or not is irrelevant.

The dealer is at www.buyaib.com. The card I ordered was
    • Multi HI-Speed Certified SD-V2-5U 2 @17.00 ea.
USB 2.0 Port PCI Card w/4 External + 1 Internal Port ***FREESHIPPING***
      Subtotal 34.00
      Shipping 0.00
      Tax 0.00
      Total 34.00
It doesn't matter if you get 1 or 10; the shipping is still free.
