A question that came to mind is how come MS no longer offer KB5034441 to the DeskTop? Have MS, somehow, noted and remember that the DeskTop has no Recovery Partition?

If so, why do MS not remember that the Recovery Partition on the LapTop isn't big enough and stop attempting to install KB5034441?

Thanks guys for your input on this very obvious oversight on MS part when setting the Partition size.
It probably won't get fixed by MS as 2025 is getting nearer and then support will diminish as planned.o_O;)

    You're welcome ... :) ... !

I have not had the time to test it myself so, you have appointed yourself to report back after next months updates. Will KB5034441 come back or will it stay away permanently?

You won't have to remind me. :) The **** thing has tried and failed to install 14 times since January 26, 2024. I ran the tool (wushowhide.diagcab) directly from Microsoft using the link in the "Update" at the bottom of the page, restarted, and then checked updates. There was a list, as I've been avoiding them. KB5034441 was hidden. If there is ever a real fix, the tool provides an option to unhide and try again to install it. It was worth the effort to get and run the tool, as there was always a considerable delay while the laptop struggled with each failed install.

What worries me is that Microsoft probably, in their wisdom, can unhide it ... ... with or without a real fix. Let's see what happens on your system on the second tuesday of may!

The real fix would be to withdraw KB5034441 and release an update ... ... that actually works!

(14May2024) KB5034441 did not reappear. Updates installed successfully.

So far as I can tell Microsoft will not fix it: "Automatic resolution of this issue won't be available in a future Windows update. Manual steps are necessary to complete the installation of this update on devices which are experiencing this error."

    You just wait  !

On my system, after the other updates had been successfully installed, I did another search for updates and  there it was!

The "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter package from Microsoft can be installed and used but I can't find it at Microsoft Update Catalog. It is available at MajorGeeks but I don't know if hiding will be "permanently" or "til next month"?

MajorGeeks says Until Next Windows Update.

"Microsoft Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter can help you uninstalling a problematic Windows Update and prevent that update from installing until the next Windows Update."

Okay, but it doesn't seem to cure the actual problem. The update doesn't install and I/we don't need to uninstall it. It doesn't install and I/we want it to quit attempting, right?

If you check the screen shots at MajorGeeks, they state that you run the tool, select the update(s) that you want to disable. If you at a later date want the update(s) to install, you have to run the tool again and reenable them (screen shot #3). MiniTool and their tutorial support this.

I believe that I will try it but not right now.

It no longer shows as an update for my desktop. And, when I ran the tool it was not there either. However, it did install on my laptop.

To get this specific Update you must have WRE and sufficient space in the Recovery Partition.
Yes Marv6, the Update will not show on your comp after about 3 goes of trying to install.
I posted the link in case someone Really wanted to install KB5034441.
If it ain't broke --- don't try and fix it.

I agree. If I have something that don't install I let it be. There has to be a reason it doesn't. I also think that MS should know if it won't install why does it download?

MrBill it's the reason your comp is identified as being Windows OS.
    MS are watching!:eek:o_O;)

My DeskTop has no recovery partition and the update showed up once (way back when the update was released) but never again. Doesn't this indicate that Microsoft has "made a note" somewhere on my DeskTop that this update is a "no-go"?

My LapTop has a recovery partition that is too small and the update fails each month and reappears the next month. However, that is when I'm at home but when on a different internet connection at a hotel, the update reappears and fails every bloody day. That's why I want to get rid of it permanently.
