I have both browsers installed (Mozilla is the default browser).

If i'm running Firefox and load a page (Yahoo for example) everything is fine.
If i'm using Mozilla and load the same page, one or more of the jpg's do not
    display.

Settings are the same for both browsers, where a matching setting can be
found that is. I've tried all that i know to determine why the full page is
different between browsers but no luck yet.

    Suggestions?
    thanks,
    savagcl

What version Mozilla? (not that it matters, but some people use old versions).
The Yahoo page is, probably, the poorest example because Yahoo does not even acknowledge the existance of anything related to the gecko engine.
But it would make it a lot easier if you gave a specific example. There was an almost endless thread about problems with display with Yahoo pages, which turned out to be related to the Sygate Firewall.
I have Firefox1.0 and Mozilla1.7.5, so get me one or two links.

    Westside,

I'm using Firefox vs 1.0 and Mozilla 1.7.5 (both freshly re-installed trying to get the problem fixed).

    An example site: winamp.com

The menu bar containing "Home, Player, Skins, Plugins, Community" shows great in Firefox
but with Mozilla, they show the small icon with a turned down, upper right, corner and an
angled line running from bottom left to center right within the icon.

Hope this helps you visualize the problem,

    thanks for replying,

    savagcl,

Using both FF 1.0 and Moz 1.7.5, the pages are identical, showing what you outlined above.

In Mozilla 1.7.5, do you have Accept All Images enabled in Privacy & Security?
    (Edit | Preferences | Privacy & Security)

    Also, have you enabled JavaScript?
    (Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Scripts & Plugins)

Do you have your UA String spoofed?

Those are the first things that come to mind.

    Hi Ramona,

    Thanks for replying.

Yes, Accept all images is turned on, for Java all is turned on except for "Hide the status bar" and "Change status bar text ".

Not sure what you mean by "UA String spoofed "?

    thanks again,

    PS: to above.

I'm running ZoneAlarm and thinking it may be the problem, i checked and they
(Moz and FF) are identical - all green checkmarks for allowing.

I have been going back and forth between Moz1.7.5 and Firefox1.0, and I can't see any difference. If you don't know what UA spoof is, you don't have it.
You need an extention to fake that you are something other than what you are using. All my Javascript options are checked. Do that before going on the deep end with something which seems irrelevant.
    I also have Zone Alarm.
Give a specific image which does not load in Yahoo, or anywhere else. I will be happy to check. I got cable.

    Westside,
    Sorry, my finger slipped.

The picture on yahoo.com about the Toshiba thing does not show. Its located
on the page in the upper, right of the body of the page (the bottom line of text
    "Toshiba-Direct.com Ad feedback" does show).

I wouldn't fuss if this was the only place it happens but the loading(?) bar on
the bottom right of mozilla shows the page as still loading and in too many
cases this means the links on a page are inactive (until the full page is loaded).

I uninstalled/reinstalled JAVA just to make sure i had the latest one and checked
to insure all check-marks were there.

I'm also on cable (comcast) so no problem there.

    thanks for the interest,
    savagcl

    clif,

In Firefox, and Mozilla, check your settings for images. If you want to see the Toshiba ad, then disable the below settings:

    Firefox:
Web Features: for the originating website only

    Mozilla:
Privacy & Security | Images: Accept images that come from the originating server only
    Select: Accept all images

My settings under Privacy & Security are:

    Cookies:
    Allow all cookies
    Accept for current session only

    Images:
    Accept all images
X Do not load remote images in Mail & Newsgroups messages
    Animated images should loop:
As many times as the image specifies

    PopupWindows:
X - Block unrequested popup windows

    Forms:
X - Save form data from web pages when completing forms

    Password Manager:
    X - Remember passwords

Master password: The first time its needed (not used).

    SSl Protocol Versions:
    X - Enable SSl version 2
    X - Enable version 3
    X - Enable TLS

    Certificates:
    X - Select automatically

    Validation:
    OCSP:
X - Do not use OCSP for certificate validation

    Under Advanced:
    Scripts & Plug-ins:
X - Navigator (all are selected)

These same settings are mirrored in FF. Thats why its so strange.....

    Add to above msg -

If i look real close, i can see the frame of the pic flash then disappear.
Looking at the properties (right-click) of the missing picture its showing:
    http://us.ard.yahoo.com/SIG=12au6ds9k/M=332806.6001668.7023203.3593789/

    http://us.a1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/a/1-/java/toshiba/050203/100feA.gif

So, does this make it a third-party thing, a banner or a popup???
Dont know if this helps but it might........

    clif,

It's coming from a source other than the originating web page. I can disable Accept images from the originating website only, and enable Show all images, and the Toshiba ad is viewable. But once I change the settings back to the original, I can no longer view that ad.

The same for Firefox, thus why I suggested the settings changes, above. That should fix it for you, but there is obviously something else going on. Do you have the most current drivers for your Graphics Card?

Is this something that suddenly went wrong, or has it always been this way?

Yes, I have the latest video drivers (nVidia 6703 drivers) and no, it wasnt
always this way..... But at least you can make yours have the same
problem. I'll keep running different configs in Mozilla (and re-read this thread).

I wish i could remember when it started happening, then i could probably get
a fix on it or at least pin it down..... I do remember it was happening before
I re-loaded WinXP but thats as far back as my memory goes i'm afraid.

    Just a follow-up.
I read through the Moz-Tips and changes a few things in Zone Alarm (mobile
code) and it seems to be working now.

At least the page seems to be loading better.

So, we'll see what the future holds.

    thanks for your support,

Could you tell us what changes you made, because you seem to be the only one with the problem. And, do you have Zone Alarm Pro. I have the free version, and "mobile code" is a completel mystery.
But Java is a possible issue, what version do you have, and do you have the .dll files in your program plugins folder. I had to, manually, copy the files for v.1.5 and 1.5.01. But Mozilla and Firefox need the same treatment.

    Westside,

I have zone alarm, not the latest but i bought it and dont intend to pay for the
upgrade (i'll go back to the free one first).

In zone alarm, go to Privacy>main>mobile code control (turn it off) then click
on custom (in the mobile control section) and uncheck all the boxes. I have 4
boxes but a later version may have more. It didnt fix everything, like weather.
com is still missing one of its panels(right side) but it fixed yahoo.com for me.

I also installed the mozilla extension "ad block" in both Moz and Firefox. After i
post this, i'll post the link to it.

I also have the latest version of JAVA - version 1.5.0 01 (the 01 is an update)

Will keep playing until i get it 100% right. Nothing less is (or should be)
    acceptable.

I installed this into both Moz and Firefox and it works.

    http://adblock.mozdev.org/

Check out this page for help in problem solving or just making Moz/FF better.
    http://mozilla.gunnars.net/mozfaq_use.html#optimize_mozilla_for_broadband

While readin the FAQ page i ran across this little gem and it does seem to be running better i.e., faster loading pages.

I have a broadband Internet connection (e.g. Cable, DSL). Is there any way I can optimize Mozilla, Netscape 7.x or Firefox for it, i.e. make it work faster?
Yes, you can optimize Mozilla, Netscape 7.x and Firefox for broadband Internet connections. Add or edit the following preferences by typing about:config in your browser's address bar (where you would normally type a web address):
    network.http.max-connections 32
    network.http.max-connections-per-server 8
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy 8
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server 4
    network.http.pipelining true
    network.http.pipelining.maxrequests 8

To edit a preference, type "network" into the Filter field. Then, right-click on the respective preference and select Modify from the context menu.
Changing these preferences will speed up your surfing noticeably, especially on pages with many images or if you are simultaneously loading multiple pages.

These settings worked very good for me. Several of the lines above had different values (like half of what you see). Setting them to the values shown
    above did improve things.

    Happy Hunting,
    savagcl

Yes, I know about what you mention, but pipelining does not help me at all, with the download and upload speeds I have.
I pay little attention to ads, unless there is an animation, and those go.
As for Zone Alarm, I have the latest free version, with no settings like yours. Who needs help like that?

    Westside,

Know what you mean.. ZA was pretty good when it first came out. But now,
bugs are creeping in or their trying to do to much, to fast. I remember when
they came out with a "later" version and it didnt work, had people in an uproar
for several weeks until a make-shift was finally put out.

I did not imply that Zone Alarm free was not good. I was just saying that the feature which you have was unnecessary. I had problem after upgrading to an early 3.x version, which would lock me out of my cable. Fortunately, my ISP tech knew about the problem, and guided me to remove the guilty files. So, I used Sygate for a while. After reinstalling it five times in a week, due to its mental lapses, I found out that a new ZA had come out, and, have had no problem since. Not bad for one issue in five years!
