Probably NOT if you set it up as an IMAP account versus a POP account... An IMPA Account is an image of the server... A POP account saves the files locally.

Compromise - "ADD" the new account to your phone.. Mark it as the Default.

I meant my Google account associated with my phone. It has all my contacts, photos, SMS, WhatsApp & other apps data stored/backed up. I want everything to be migrated to some other Google account

Hi rsinfo, Have you tried "syncing" ?
I have 2 Xiaomi phones, Mi Note10 Lite (Android 12) and Redmi Note 7 (Android 10) and both are "synced" to my Google account and have the same info on them.
Can you sync to your comp?
You can also use "Droid Transfer App" from Playstore to copy/print data and texts or photos.

I just had a look in Accounts and Sync and down the bottom of the list is Xiaomi Cloud.
Could you "backup" to Xiaomi Cloud and then Change your Google Account?

The problem is that if you change your Google Account, you lose ALL your Data etc. unless you have a backup.
    Found this:

Never thought about using Xiaomi cloud to backup/restore data.

Since I have a lot of data on my phone, this project would have to wait for sometime.

    Thanks retiredlearner

Why? Lots of data. It ain't like you backing up a PC. Shouldn't take but a minute or so to do.

MrBill, each phone manufacturer has his own software program if it's based on Android (Google).
Xiaomi have their own MUI xxxx and they offer two options to backup, normal or Quick sync.
if you choose Quick sync, Power consumption increases dramatically so rsinfo will do what he chooses.

I have lots of numbers and photos saved on the phone & it syncs with Google Drive and NOT Xiaomi cloud. So I would have to move everything to Xiaomi cloud, change the Google account, download from Xiaomi account & then sync with new Google Drive. That's going to take a lot of time.

I have over 200 phone numbers, and hundreds of photos and some video's also. When I backed up the first time, it was probably about a minute or so.

    Sorry for the late reply.
My Google Photo account is nearly full (around 13 GB) of photos. The Xiaomi account only gives me 5 GB of free space. So its not possible to backup the data to Xiaomi cloud & then restore.
Giving up the idea for the time being. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

13Gigs of photos is a big package to store. Can Google compress in blocks to download to your comp as an interim storage?

    An update.
Lost my phone, so decided to take the plunge. It was not hard but since Google hasn't provided any utility or method to move your old data to new account, it was in a round about way.

    1. Synced my temporary phone with the old account. This includes all contacts, photos, WhatsApp data & SMS (I use Microsoft SMS Organizer which has an auto backup/restore function).
    2. Created a new Google account.
    3. Shared my old Google Photos account with new account. This doesn't transfers the photos but just links them to new account. If you want to physically transfer the photos, then you have to do it manually 50 photos at a time. Too much work, so I just let the old photos be stored on my old account. (I know I am lazy :))
    4. For contacts, login to old account & export the contacts as .CSV file. Now login to new account & just import this file. Pronto ! All contacts with all proper fields including category/label intact.
    5. Couldn't find a way to transfer the Google Keep data from old account to new one in one go. So I had to select individual note & send it to my new account. In my case, I had only 20 or so notes to transfer so it worked but if you have to transfer huge data then it's a problem.
    6. Couldn't find a way to transfer calendar data. So skipped it.
    7. On the temporary phone, changed the Google account to new account for backup on each & every app. Then backed up the data to new account.

I am still waiting for my new phone but think that now the sync would be seamless & trouble free as all the data I require is on the new account.

Would update once again when I receive the phone and set it up.

FYI - Samsung/Android phone come with an app called SmartSwitch... It copies all files and stuff from one phone to another real easily. Can also use it to back up all the files to a PC.

None of my device is Samsung. Don't know if it would work on any other device. And I wanted to change the Google account too.
